10 Tips to Increase your SEO
1. Get lots of backlinks to your site.
The more backlinks you receive to your site, the higher you will rank in the search engines.
Make sure, that if you are going to build backlinks, you do them from relevant pages. So the website has to be in the same genre.
Also make sure, that you don’t build the first day 1000 backlinks, and the days after it none. This will look like you are using some kind of script, and the search engines don’t like that. So never use those scripts, these are Blackhat SEO, the better way to build them is manual, which is Whitehat SEO
When you want to exchange links with an other website, choose the right title for your link. The title should be a (few) keywords, that you want to rank high on in search engine results. And make your titles, so they are interested for visitors from the other website, because they might click on it faster when it looks more interesting.
2. Check your page Titles.
From all the elements in your pages, is there one element which is really important, your title tags.
Why is the title tag so important?
A good title tells the search engines what the page is about, and search engines will show your title in their searches as a link to your page.
And you can see the difference in this, on what title will you click:

And also make sure that every page has a different title, so that visitors and search engines know about the different pages and what they are about.
3. Use good meta tags and description.
Although some people are saying that your meta tags aren’t improtant, I reccomend you to still use them.
For the keywords: < meta name =” keywords ” content = ” put here some keywords for which you want to rank for. Don;t use to much keywords, and don’t repeat them more then 2 times. ” / >
For the description: < meta name = ” description ” content =” Put here a nice sentence which is a brief summary for what is on your webpage. Out in here some keywords you used in the keywords meta tags section. This description will be shown in google, underneath your title, so make it interesting. ” / >
Always, just like the title, have different keywords and description for every webpage on your website. And make them attractive to click on.
4. No Parameters.
A lot of websites (also this one) are using a Content Manager System (CMS). The CMS gets pages out of the database.
With those CMS systems, the website is easy to control, and add new things very easy and delete them even more easy.
But a negative thing of those systems, is that they don’t have SEO friendly URLs
Those URLs look like this one:
And this one is a lot better:
When a search engine is looking through your website, to crawl it, and it spots a ? or a & it won’t crawl that page any more. Only because they have troubles with crawling that page!
And if you are going to use a CMS system, alsways make sure that you have good .htaccess file, this will change your URLs if you set the data right in it.
5. Make use of a Sitemap.
Search engines can only index your pages, if another page is linking to the page you want to index.
So if your home site adres is indexed, and the rest of your pages aren’t it is a good idea to make a sitemap.
A sitemap can be created very easily. Go to the website http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ and fill in your website data and it will create automatically your sitemap.
Also search engines can look through your sitemap, to look if you have added a new web page on your website.
6. Don’t use tricks to trick search engines.
Don’t use one of these tricks to try to trick the search engines, if they find out about it, they will lower your position, or you might get banned.
1. Hidden text. Don’t put white text on a white background, so it’s invisible for the visitor.
2. Doorway pages. Pages full of keywords, just to get high ranks in search engines.
3. Misleading redirects. The visitor will be sended very quickly to another webpage.
4. Cloaking. Search engines are given very different page content then is given to the visitor.
For that purposes, it is very usefull to use. But absolutely not for navigation! Why? Well because the search engines find it very hard to find those pages then, so they are very hard to index. It is better to use CSS for this.
8. NO frames.
Say goodbye to your frames if you have them, because search engines have no clue at all what there is inside the frames.
If you use frames, the search engines can’t see your nice Search Engine Optimization texts.
And if the search engines do find your pages, and do index them, will they be shown without surrounded frames.
So don’t use them, and if you want to use them then also use the tag NOFRAMES that’s a bit more positive.
9. Use headings.
Use the headings ( < h1 > < h2 >etc.) to show on the page which lines are important.
At the start of a topic, I recommend you to use the h1 heading.
For a description underneath that heading you should use another heading.
For other topics in youur big topic, use again other headings. This will make your website more attractive to read for the visitors, and also for the search engines.
Also you can use the < strong > tag to show that something is important!
10. Use a robots.txt file
Use a robots.txt file to show search engines which pages they are allowed to index, and which page they aren’t.
Before a search engines is going to your site, www.site.com/hello.html he will first check your robots.txt file www.site.com/robots.txt
This is how it works:
The user-agent shows us that all the search engines are allowed to crawl the page.
The disallow tells us now that the search engines can’t look at www.site.com/ and any further.
The disadvantages of a robots.txt file is, that it is made by a normal notepad.
If you put this file on your website, anyone can have a look at it, which maps are and aren’t allowed for search engines.
Don’t put all your effort every day in SEO marketing, otherwise you will become stressed.
To clear your mind for a bit, just play games.
