I see these ‘stuff envelopes and make $50/hr’ jobs advertised everywhere.

Whether you first heard about these searching the internet or you just happened to be ‘lucky’ enough to receive an unsolocited (spam) email offer, I just want to lay it out straight right from the start – there are no work from home jobs stuffing envelopes that pay even a semi decent pay rate (let alone $50/hr).

These ‘job opportunities’ are created to prey on the desperate and venerable, because as the saying goes, if something sounds too good to be true – it probably is.

When you look at these offers rationally, you can start to see all the things that do not seem to make sense.

  • How did the get your email address?
  • Why pay you $50/hr, when they could hire something for $5/hr or less?
  • Why do you have to pay money to get started?

It all seems look a little more unbelievable when you step back and take a look at the offer from a distance. This is why it is best to ask a friends opinion before taking these strangers up on their offer.

So Can You Make Money From Home Other Ways?

Now just because one method of working from home isn’t legitimate doesn’t mean that there are not other opportunities that you could take hold of.

What I wanted to do was go through a couple of options that you may wish to consider if you are looking to slowly make the transition from employee to working from home (or maybe you are just wanting to make a bit of extra cash on the side).

1. Start A Small Business

Obviously the first thing you should look into is starting your own small business from home. Consider your hobbies and interests and see if it is something that you can create/sell/do that other people would considering buying.

2. Build A Website/Blog

A lot of people are making money on the internet and blogging is becoming incredibly popular. Find a topic that you are interested in, set up a blog and build a community around your site and you can then either sell advertisement spots or sell other peoples products for a commission. The best thing about this is that you can set up a blog for under $100.

3. Complete Online Surveys

If you are looking for something a little less complicated and something that you don’t have to invest any money in, then doing online surveys for money is a great way to make a little money on the side. The benefit here is that they are free to do (don’t ever pay for the right to complete surveys) and they are actually quite a lot of fun.

4. Become A Mystery Shopper

For something a little more interesting, you could consider applying for a where you would be visiting businesses in your area and completing tasks outlined by their management or owners to text staff knowledge and service.

So while you may not be able to make a living stuffing envelopes there are quite a lot of other opportunities that will allow you to work from home – so why not consider your options.

So true, and yet so many people are trying to find “the” opportunity where they can earn money without having to do actual work. I am a writer and work from home, but some people prefer to be unemployed rather than to do the same.
