The Royal Wedding Dress
If you’re in the US, and if you’re in the eastern US like I am, did you set your alarm clock at 4 am to watch the proceedings? I definitely did not. I mean, it’s great that Prince William and Kate Middleton are getting married and all; I’m a fan of marriage myself and it’s a very happy thing. But I didn’t need to get up extra early to watch it on TV. I didn’t DVR it either. I have not even watched any videos online. AT ALL. I swear. I don’t really do the celebrity obsession thing.
But as a girl, there is one thing that I did have to see: the royal wedding dress. What was Kate wearing??? I did a Google Images search to see it. I was dying to know.
There she is with her father and her sister as the maid of honor doing her duty and holding up that super long train. It’s a very nice dress but I wasn’t absolutely blown away.
First of all, I was surprised that it has sleeves. It is April in London so maybe the weather has something to do with it but I didn’t expect full-on sleeves. Little cap sleeves would have been cute. I also was hoping for more fullness on the bottom. I mean, come on, this is a princess. Shouldn’t a big ball gown be a part of it? But I suspect that a large dress like that may not be Kate Middleton’s style.
What you can’t see in this picture is the back of the dress, which is probably my favorite part. It is a satin bow…so adorable! Some people might think it’s tacky or reminiscent of the 1980′s but I loved it. I’m a sucker for a bow. I actually have bows on the shoes that I’m wearing today!
But anyhow, the dress was designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. It had been buzzed about months prior that she was the chosen designer but she was quick to dispel those rumors in order to keep the dress as secret as possible. Kate chose the McQueen brand because it’s known for it’s craftsmanship and she worked very closely with Sarah and the design team on the design, making sure it was going to be just as she wanted it. The McQueen team also designed her shoes.
So as I sit here today, working away on my company’s and credit card processing websites, I’m thinking back to my own wedding day almost two years ago on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. It was a perfect day and so is my husband. Here’s to a long and happy marriage, William & Kate!
